Title: Cramp-T
Categories: Beverages Herb
Yield: 1 Formula

1ptCramp bark
  OR
1ptBlack haw
1ptPennyroyal leaf
1ptValerian root
1/2ptGinger

(The abbreviation PT above stands for PART.)

If making as a tea, use 4-6 tablespoons of herb mixture per quart of water. First decoct the cramp bark and ginger root for 20 minutes, simmering slowly over low heat. Turn off the heat and add the pennyroyal and valerian root to the mixture. (Valerian and pennyroyal lose their herbal essence if decocted and are best prepared by infusing.) Steep an additional 15-20 minutes. Strain. Drink ¬ cup every 15 minutes until cramps cease.

If making as a tincture, place herb mixture in a clean, dry glass jar. The jar should be no more than 2/3 full. Pour 100 proof vodka over the herbs to cover by 1-2 inches. Cap tightly and store in a warm, dark place. I recommend shaking the jar daily to keep the herbs from packing on the bottom of the jar. At the end of 4-6 weeks, strain out the herbs and rebottle the tincture. Take ¬ teaspoon every 15 minutes until cramps cease.

If you don't wish to use an alcoholic tincture, you can substitute apple cider vinegar (5-7% acetic acid) or pure vegetable glycerine (mixed 2:1 with water). These are not as effective as alcohol tinctures, but are acceptable. You can also drop your dose into just-boiled water to release the alcohol.

For maximum effectiveness, you can make the tea and drop your dose of tincture into the tea.
